Tips to Tackle Job Hunting

  1. Update your Resume: We suggest adding a couple of bullet points on your job duties and responsibilities and an “Accomplishments” section including the top things you contributed to better the company that you are most proud of.

  2. Research: Find the top companies you would love to work for and reflect on WHY you want to work there, and HOW you can be an asset.

  3. Cover Letter: Consider writing a template cover letter that you can tailor to each company & position you are applying for.

  4. Update your Reference List: Reach out to your references to ask if they would mind speaking on your behalf and let them know you are beginning the job hunt and they may receive reference calls in the near future.

  5. Practice the STAR Method – This will be helpful in efficiently executing your answers to interview questions.

  6. Dress to Impress: Have 1-2 designated “interview outfits” ready to go so you can feel prepared to be as confident as possible to interview.

  7. Double Down on Social: Take the time to update your LinkedIn page, double-check personal social media, and make sure it’s either private or professionally appropriate (since a lot of employers are using it nowadays to look at candidates).

  8. Partner: With your Alcoa Recruiter to represent you and support you in finding your next opportunity.
